Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Breed Information
Cavalier King Charles Personality
Like most spaniels, the Cavlalier King Charles Spaniel is an affectionate, people-oriented breed that relishes attention. However, they can be stand-offish with strangers. They are alert and vocal like most sporting dogs, but unless you consider getting licked to death threatening, it's not the best choice for protecting your home and belongings from intruders. Because they have a strong will to please and are very sensitive to their owners reactions, they train easily, and to a high degree. View our Cavalier King Charles Puppies for Sale.
Cavalier King Charles Puppies
Females bear litters numbering between 2-6 pups. Puppies usually develop without complications, but as with all pups, early positive socialization benefits them greatly.
Cavalier King Charles Comments
A descendent of the King Charles Spaniel, it was crowned as a separate breed with the addition of the word "Cavalier" to the name to differentiate it from its progenitor. It was originally developed by crossing the Cocker Spaniel with the King Charles Spaniel.
Potential Health Problems for Cavalier King Charles
Congenital eye defects and heart ailments are the most common; hip dysplasia is occasionally seen in this toy breed. Dogs with a low activity level are prone to obesity. Choose a high-quality dog food with a lowered fat content to avoid excess weight gain.
Cavalier King Charles Care and Exercise
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is well-suited to the restrictions to roam of urban life because of its small size, but true to its sporting nature, it lights up during a good run at the local park. Regular walks are also good for keeping the dog in a healthy physical condition.
Recommendations
Great for apartment living, suburban or country life. Does well in most settings as long as it gets plenty of play time, affection, and attention.
Cavalier King Charles Ideal Appearance
A small and lively spaniel with expressive, dark eyes and a long, tapered snout. The length of the coat is moderate, but is longer and more curly around the ears and back of the legs.
